Defying mud, rain and a half time deficit, the Dons eventually won a dour local derby against Kingstonian. Alan Hooper in the Ks goal, aided by some woeful finishing, meant that a left foot shot from Jock Woods, following a clever pass by Bird, was all the hosts had to show for their early dominance and the Ks took full advantage to lead at half time. A defensive mix up left Stannard with the time and space to level the score soon after the hour mark and Woods won it when he fired home from close range after Hooper had dropped a shot from Wimbledon’s centre forward. Five minutes before the scheduled 2.30pm kick off, Wimbledon MP Cyril Black addressed the crowd on ‘The Needs of Civil Defence for recruits.’
