Steve Galliers
(1977/78 - 1987/88)
Spotted by Allen Batsford as he helped his Chorley side beat Wimbledon in a twice replayed FA Trophy tie during the club's last season of non league football, Steve Galliers went on to become one of the legends of the club's history. On Blackburn Rovers' books as a teenager, he had two spells at Plough Lane after making his debut in the Dons first ever Division Four fixture against Halifax Town.

Initially out of favour when new boss Dario Gradi took over in January 1978, the 'Mighty Midget' was a key member of the side that won promotion to Division Three the following year. His lung busting displays in the centre of midfield won him many admirers but he also attracted the attention of referees due to his robust tackling and his misdemeanours meant he was regularly suspended.

Voted Player of the Year as the Dons won promotion again in 1980-81, he was sold to Crystal Palace during the following campaign but he never settled at Selhurst Park and returned to SW19 in the summer of 1982. Now playing under Dave Bassett he and Steve Ketteridge formed a dynamic midfield partnership as the club moved up through the divisions in record time.

He began the club's first Division One campaign in the side but by November he had been replaced by another former building site worker - Vinnie Jones - and the then thirty year old realised his days at the club were over and he moved Bristol City after a loan spell, then to Maidstone United.
