Ian, who had previously been at Orient, signed from Bromley on a part-time contract prior to the start of the 1978/79 seasons and came on as a sub in the opening pre-season friendly, at home to Colchester United, then played the full 90 minutes at Gravesend & Northfleet the following Saturday.

His son Ryan was an associate schoolboy at Wycombe Wanderers in the early 2000s and was then at Windsor & Eton, Maidenhead United, Hemel Hempstead Town, Windsor FC (captain) and back to Hemel Hempstead Town
