Both sides had the chances to win the game but eventually had to settle for a share of the spoils. Despite a wind that swirled around the City Ground, the teams produced some incisive, passing football but were unable to find a way past two well marshalled defences. Even when Wimbledon were reduced to ten men following the sending off of Connolly in the 80th minute, Forest could not find a way past Davis.

"We needed three points but a draw was the fair result," Burton conceded. "In the first half we controlled the game and Patrick Agyemang had a great chance to score but after the interval Kelvin Davis had to come to our rescue on a couple of occasions."
