AFC Wimbledon scored the second and third goals of their short existence in an exciting end to end encounter with Boreham Wood on a sunny afternoon in North London.

Around 800 dons made the long trip north to see Glen 'Trigger' Mulcaire score his second spectacular goal in as many matches before the team was ultimately out muscled and outfought by a strong Ryman Premier outfit.

Wimbledon began that match the stronger, gaining several set pieces in dangerous positions but failing to take full advantage. The first goal came out of no where; Trigger gained the ball around 30 yards out, took a few paces forward and sent a perfect lob over the keeper and in to the far corner. It was a superb goal, and one that would not have looked out of place coming from the boot of Michael Hughes or Kevin Cooper.

As the half wore on, The Dons' defensive frailties when playing higher class opposition came to the fore. On a few occasions the talented Borehamwood attack cut through the unfamiliar Wimbledon defence with ease and they had taken a deserved 2-1 lead by half time.

In the second half, Boreham Wood extended their lead twice more as Wimbledon began to tire, but there was one more bit of excitement to come before the match fizzled out. Akin Gallimore made a good run down the left side of the box before cutting inside the defender and going down under his challenge. Mehmet Mehmet dispatched the penalty with ease.

Despite the match ending 4-2 there were many positives to take from the game. The players are getting to know each other better and are functioning well as a team, this despite playing an unfamiliar 5-3-2 formation in this game. Strikers Daniel Jones and Trigger looked bright and Sim Johnston remained a solid presence in the centre of the defence.

All in all, a mixed performance against strong opposition and plenty of reason to be optimistic for the future.
