Two full-strength sides contested the annual Kingstonian-Wimbledon friendly, this year for the first time in memory of Trevor Jones, the popular K's keeper who passed away last September.

And Wimbledon stormed out of the blocks to take the lead after just 75 seconds. Ryan Gray swung in an excellent cross which eluded the defence and Richard Butler headed goalwards unmarked at the back post. Key did well to block, but Jamie Taylor swept in the rebound.

Ursell curled an effort just over bar immediately afterwards as the Dons had the lion's share of possession. Gell fired over after a one-two with Ursell and K's were restricted to just a couple of early corners. But as the game wore on, Ks grew stronger and held on to the ball better than their visitors. Naibitt clawed a free-kick away from under his bar and some idiosyncratic refereeing kept the Dons penned in. On 28 minutes, Ryan Gray was penalised by the byline and from a looped freekick by Martyn Lee, Matt Bradford rose to head across Naisbitt and into the net for the equaliser.

Ks then fizzed a few dangerous crosses across Naisbitt's goal without ever really threatening, while at the other end, Jamie Taylor couldn't quite connect properly on an Ursell through ball and two neat passing movements foundered for want of a final ball. 1-1 seemed a fair reflection of the situation at the interval, but it only stayed that way thanks to a glaring miss by substitute Mazzine Ahmed in injury time.

The second-half was scrappy and fractious with few clear cut chances. The referee tried to liven up proceedings, adjudging a shot that struck Howard's side from two yards to constitute handball and give the home side a penalty. Ryan Gray found his way into the book for dissent, but Naisbitt dived low to his right to save Steele's effort. Ball then headed narrowly wide as Ks seemed the stronger side.

But in a reversal of the first half, it was the Dons who looked stronger as the second period wore on. Ursell's skills continued to entertain and his free-kick found Steve Butler, whose header drew a one handed tip round the post from sub keeper Barry Marchena.

With full-time and penalties looming, Matt Everard jogged forward for an Ursell corner and sent a header that redefined looping in a graceful parabola over the keeper and into the far corner for 2-1 on 84 minutes.

Ursell slid Sheerin away immediately afterwards and Marchena came out to block well. A minute later, a poor crossfield ball by the K's defence found Jamie Taylor in space and his shot squirmed under Marchena's body for 3-1.

In injury time, Steve Gibson's cross was backheeled into Joe Sheerin's path by Jamie Taylor and Sheerin smashed it home for a flattering 4-1 final score.
