3 - 2
Wimbledon
Ron Head, Frank Lemmer

With Neil injured on Christmas morning Norman Smith was surprisingly selected to lead the line. Haydock replaced Mortimer between the sticks and would become the regular keeper for several years.

Ilford took the lead in the first ten minutes, Melton beat the defence and centred for Regan to score easily. Smith won a rather fortuitous penalty when he ran through the middle and tangled with Toase. Lemmer made not mistake from the spot. With 25 minutes gone the home side regained the advantage, a good effort from Winder.

Ilford went further in front fifteen minutes into the second half with a carbon copy of their first goal. Richfield went close with a splendid effort befoR Head reduced the arrears, finding himself one on one he steadied himself and skilfully passed it wide of the advancing custodian. Wimbledon piled on the pressure with shots from all directions, but the closest they could manage was a great effort from Richfield that wobbled the crossbar.
