Jones came in at right-half for Magill, who had picked up an injury in the semi-final the previous week and Walker continued in place of the recovering Laker, but the Dons made it twelve straight victories as they brushed past Ted Drake’s Hendon to reach another semi-final in front of a crowd numbering 6,000.

Hendon took the early initiative, their forward line thrusting down the wings, and Haydock was forced into making an early save from Bryant. The visitors’ defence also had the best of the early exchanges, their quick tackling preventing the Dons forwards from settling down. With twenty minutes gone they deservedly took the lead, Prior cut in to receive a ball from Hardy and tapped the ball to Griffiths, whose first-time drive deceived Haydock, perhaps via a deflection, and settled in the back of the net. This reverse spurred the home team into action and they hit back with four goals in the fifteen minutes before half-time. Nash met a centre from Walker and smashed the ball against the corner of the post and bar before Stannard got the first, scoring after Edelston had back-heeled a pass from Head into his path. Two minutes later Edelston again spoon-fed Stannard and the result was a second goal. Despite the reverse, Hendon were still proving dangerous and both Griffiths and Stroud went close with first-time shots, but Wimbledon increased their lead when Walker chased the ball to the line and crossed for Nash to head in. Kemp was forced to punch out three times as the home team went for the jugular, and Edelston finally made the pressure count. As the whistle approached for half-time the visitors pulled one back, Reay converting a corner.

With the game all but over the second half was a tamer affair, despite the best efforts of both teams, and it looked like there would be no further scoring until Stannard cut in onto a pass from Nash to complete his hat-trick with ten minutes left.
