Known as Mickey, George was born in Clapham and his first organised football was played on Clapham Common for Battersea Albion. After playing for Windemere and Wimbledon St. Andrew's he joined Wimbledon with his older brother Arthur as Wimbledon joined the senior ranks, playing at the back for two seasons before joining local rivals Clapham.

After a season there he played for Brentford reserves and Crystal Palace reserves before moving to Nunhead. He played for a further three seasons, twice winning London Charity Cup winners medals.

Outside of football George was a leather case maker and was captain of the Havelock Netball Club, representing England three times.
