Albert Collins
(1921/22 - 1927/28)
Educated at Aske's, New Cross, he captained his school side through an unbeaten season in 1916. Playing at centre-forward he once scored 25 goals in three games and represented the Public Schools team. He also won the school swimming championship and was South London boxing champion in the eight stone weight division.

Joining the War effort he was granted a commission in the Machine Gun Corps and was awarded the Military Cross for action in the Somme in August 1918.

T./2nd Lt. Albert Henry Collins, 32nd Bn., M.G. Corps.

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This officer commanded a section supporting the right battalion in an attack on a village. He went forward with the first wave, selecting positions for his guns to occupy so that there might be no delay in bringing them into action. As a result of his forward observation under heavy fire, he was able to place his guns so that effective neutralising fire was brought to bear on the enemy, and the infantry were covered while consolidating. He showed marked initiative and resource throughout.

After the War he returned to education at Goldsmith's College and was selected for London University at outside-right, winning his colours in 1918/19, and reaching the final of the inter-collegiate cup.

Known as Curly, he joined Wimbledon in 1920 after a trial. After breaking into the first team he was soon playing regularly for the Surrey F.A. representative side and in November 1921 he was chosen to play for London against Brussels.

Left Wimbledon for a spell at Summerstown halfway through the 1925/26 season and played against Wimbledon in 1926/27, but he returned to the Dons at the start of the 1927/28 season.
