An alumni of the Priory School in Acton, for a while playing in goal, Eric turned out ocassionally for local side St. Cuthberts, joining them permanently when he left school. After six seasons there he joined the R.A.F. for his National Service and helped his unit to the semi-final of the R.A.F. Cup.

Returning to civvies he joined Brentford for a short while before moving on to Wimbledon's local rivals, Kingstonian, where he stayed for five seasons before joining the Dons around 1956.

Due to make his debut away to Romford, he missed his car ride and eventually arrived to late to play, but he was in the team the following week and was a regular on the right wing thereafter. Played several times for Surrey.

An engineer by trade, Eric lived in Ealing and still followed Brenford as well as Middlesex CC.
