Sammy Sowter
(1924/25 - 1932/33)
After joining from the Wimbledon & District League club Spalding, where he had already represented the London F.A. Junior side, during the 1924/25 season, the right-back quickly worked his way through the strollers and reserve sides into the first team. In time he was considered one of the best right backs in amateur football and many judged him unlucky not to be called up for international football. He represented Surrey County, the London FA and the Isthmian League due to his hard, clean tackling and powerful clearances. Missed the second half of the 1928/29 season on doctor's orders after a bout of pleurisy.
