Ted joined the Dons during the 1929-30 season having been a member of the Army XI during his time in uniform. He played mainly for the reserves and only made a handful of first team appearances before getting his break after staring in the Possibles team in the 1930/31 pre-season game and when first choice goalkeeper Lewis dislocated a finger he came into the side for the opening game against London Caledonians. He quickly established himself and went on to appear in all 46 league and cup games during the marathon campaign.

During the 1970s and 80s his widow, Margaret, acted as landlady to many of the club’s younger players - most notably Nigel Winterburn.
