Known as Sailor, he helped re-establish the club after World War II as a full-back, and despite his lack of inches he moved to centre-half the following season and was an integral part of the Dons early post-War success. He played in the 1946/47 Amateur Cup final before leaving at the end of the season when a new job involved working on Saturdays.

Served as an able seaman on HMS Aldenham, the last Destroyer to be sunk during WWII.
