An unchanged side made the journey to Oxford City for vital Isthmian League points, watched by an attendance of nearly 4,000. Wimbledon pressed from the start and almost scored twice in the first ten minutes, both as the result of errors. Firstly the Oxford centre-half Walker completely missed the ball, but Stannard was caught by surprise and missed the guilt edged chance that resulted, then Oakey fumbled a shot that rolled out of his grasp but just wide. As the game settled down, both side had chances, Vic Bird forcing a save and then flashing one just over for the Dons. Harry Stannard swung over a cross that beat the keeper, but Stone got his head to the ball to clear. |
