Isthmian League

Ilford
?
3 - 1
Wimbledon
Billy Laws

Still missing Maggs and Lister, an unchanged side visited Newbury Park for Isthmian League points, but returned with none after Ilford completed the double over the Dons.

Billy Cousins continued at the back, but had obviously still not fully recovered from his own injury and up front Charlie Smith was proving a trier, but essentially not really good enough to lead the line at this level. But for weak finishing from the home side they would have taken the lead long before their own Smith gave them the lead after twenty minutes. It was a cracking effort and worthy of the leading goal, and it was miraculous that it took until five minutes before the interval before they increased the lead when Winch snapped on a pass from Melon to beat Jim Haydock.

The pressure continued after the interval and five minutes in Pratt fired off a terrific shot that rattled the crossbar and rebounded back almost as far as the half-way line. Harry Stannard latched onto the ball and defied several challenges while running forward and left before switching the ball to the opposite wing. Barron came out to collect, but fumbled and Billy Laws stole the ball and rounded the prone keeper before banging it into the net. But the Dons failed to gain the initiative and Ilford never relaxed their grip on the game, adding the decisive third through Winch fifteen minutes before the final whistle.
